Retail and Food & Beverage Services Industries Register Higher Growth in November

Both sales in retail and food & beverage industries have increased in November 2025 according to the latest data released by the Department of Statistics Singapore on Monday (Jan. 5).

On a year-on-year basis, total retail sales rose 6.3 per cent to $4.4 billion in November last year, following the 4.4 per cent growth in October 2025.

Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales increased by 5.8 per cent to $3.9 billion, extending the 3.7 per cent growth in October 2025.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales registered flat growth in November 2025 over the previous month. Excluding motor vehicles, seasonally adjusted retail sales rose 0.8 per cent compared to October 2025.

Of the total retail sales of $4.4.billion in November 2025, an estimated 16.9 per cent were from online retail sales, higher than the 14.5 per cent recorded in October 2025.

Excluding motor vehicles, 19.3 per cent were from online retail sales.

The increase in online retail sales was mainly attributed to increased online purchases during year-end shopping events such as Singles’ Day and Black Friday.

Computer & Telecommunications Equipment made up the highest proportion of online retail sales at 60.6 per cent, followed by Furniture & Household Equipment at 40.7 per cent. About 12.6 per cent of the online sales were from Supermarkets & Hypermarkets respectively.

Within the retail trade, 11 industry groups recorded year-on-year growth in sales in November 2025.

Four of the 11 industry groups registered more than 10 per cent increase in sales. Recreational Goods posted the highest sales growth of 13.9 per cent, followed by Watches & Jewellery of 13.1 per cent, Cosmetics, Toiletries & Medical Goods at 11.4 per cent and motor vehicles at 10.4 per cent.

Two industry groups posted negative sales. Sales at petrol Service Stations declined by 6.7 per cent while sales for Food & Alcohol had weakened by 3.1 per cent in November.

For food & beverage (F&B) services, sales increased 2.5 per cent to $1 billion in November 2025 on a year-on-year basis, matching the 2.5 per cent growth in October 2025.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales of F&B services fell 0.8 per cent in November 2025 compared to the previous month.

Out of the F&B services industry, an estimated 24.8 per cent were from online sales, slightly lower than the 25.1 per cent recorded in October 2025.

Within the F&B services, sales in Fast Food Outlets and Food Caterers industries increased by 7 per cent each.

Sales at the Cafes, Food Courts & Other Eating Places grew by 2 per cent during this period.

Sales at restaurants declined by 0.4 per cent in November last year.

The F&B services do not cover individual stalls in hawker centres, food courts, coffee shops or canteens.
