Texas in the U.S. is suing Chinese network equipment maker TP-Link for trying to conceal its ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
State Attorney General Ken Paxton said despite its claims of privacy and security, TP-Link’s products have been used by Chinese state-sponsored hackers to launch multiple cyber attacks against the U.S.
He added that TP-Link’s ownership and supply chain are tied to the CCP.
The company is subject to China’s national data laws, which allow the CCP to have access to U.S. devices as nearly all of its product parts that come from China.
The Texas Attorney General said TP-Link poses a national security threat, and the lawsuit should ”serve as a clear warning to any Chinese entity seeking to compromise our nation’s security.”
Texas said the lawsuit is part of a broader initiative to protect data for the people in Texas.
Paxton will file more lawsuits this week against companies aligned with the CCP.
