The US this week approved a subpoena for a pro-Beijing billionaire who is suspected of bankrolling organised protests in the U.S.
The groups behind these protests are socialist groups, like the Party for Socialism and Liberation, suspected to be bankrolled by China-based billionaire Neville Roy Singham.
Singham is alleged to be backed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
U.S. Congresswoman on the U.S. House Select Committee on the CCP Ana Paulina Luna describes Singham as the funding arm of the CCP and has moved to subpoena him to testify before the House Oversight Committee.
“He is definitely someone that is anti-American in ideology and regardless of where you might stand, even on topics like Israel versus Palestine, is funding certain groups that actually sow discord in this country with no efforts to actually resolve the issues, only to get us to fight one another,” Luna said.
The committee will probe the links between Singham and the CCP.
The Oversight Committee opened their investigation into Singham last year after former Senator Marco Rubio, now Secretary of State, referred him to the Justice Department.
Several lawmakers told NTD the issue is worthy of attention.
“There’s a real concern here that we have a vivid fifth column approaching on U.S. shores that are trying to advance a pro Beijing agenda at the expense of Americans around the world,” U.S. lawmaker Zach Nunn from the Select Committee on the CCP said.
