China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) announced a new rule aimed at standardising the army’s fuel management process and preventing misuse.
New regulations issued recently aimed to standardise the process of military fuel management in areas such as procurement, transport, storage and disposal, the official PLA Daily said on Tuesday.
The announcement came just days after Chinese leader Xi Jinping purged two top military officials, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli. They are considered close allies of Xi.
The move is seen as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s latest efforts to boost its military readiness.
“Chinese military commentators said recent wars around the world show that success depends on strong coordination between combat forces and support systems,” according to a Facebook post by The world news.
“If logistics planning is closely linked with battle planning, military operations become more effective,’’ the post added.
Taiwan’s Minister of National Defense Wellington Hu said the Taiwanese government is closely monitoring unusual developments within the CCP and the military.
He added that Taiwan’s military planning is based on a long-standing reality that China has never ruled out the use of force against Taiwan.
The CCP has claimed Taiwan as its own, although the island has had a democratically elected government by the Taiwanese people since the island held its first presidential election in 1996.
Earlier this week, Taiwan’s military hosted air force and naval drills in preparation to combat any potential assaults from the Chinese military.
