The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has released an advice to consumers who have purchased the Community Co’s Diced Beetroot canned product against eating them.

SFA said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan. 14), “Consumers who have purchased the implicated product should not consume it.”

“Those who have consumed and have concerns about their health should seek medical attention,” it added.

The recall was in response to an alert of potential presence of rust within the can from the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), an Australian government agency responsible for food standards for Australia and New Zealand under the Joint Foods Standards Treaty.

“As a precautionary measure, SFA has directed the importer, Redmart Pte Ltd, to recall the implicated product.”

The implicated product is from China bearing the batch number 3700/01131 L24155 and weighs 420g, according to SFA.

FSANZ mentioned on its website a problem on the product stating “a packaging fault resulting in potential presence of rust inside of the can.”

Community Co was launched by the team at IGA with a core purpose of giving back to local Australian communities and to contribute to better environmental outcomes across the supply chain.

IGA, founded in 1926 in the U.S., is an international affiliation of franchised grocery stores that are independently owned and operated.

As of 2017, the network included nearly 5,000 supermarkets in more than 30 countries, with approximately US$36 billion in annual sales.
