U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday (Jan. 16) he had held off strikes on Iran for now, praising Iranian leaders for allegedly cancelling their scheduled executions.
“Iran cancelled the hanging of over 800 people. They were going to hang over 800 people yesterday. And I greatly respect the fact that they cancelled them,” he told reporters outside the White House.
In response to a reporter’s question on who convinced him to hold off the strikes, Trump said, “Nobody convinced me.”
“I convinced myself you had yesterday’s scheduled over 800 hangings.”They didn’t hang any when they cancelled the hangings,” he added.
This comes as Trump has issued strong threats against the Iranian regime over the past few weeks as their bloody crackdown on anti-regime protesters continues.
And it comes just one day after the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, said that Trump and the U.S. stand by the Iranian protesters and that all options are still on the table to stop the slaughter in Iran.
